How is Hell working for you, sinners?

So yeah, last week, we promised you Hell, and Hell is what you'll get. Nick was kind enough to invite me on board for Hozuki's Coolheadedness, and together we tackled what is basically a documentary of the work ethic among the denizens of Hell. The namesake of the show, Hozuki, might consider sloth to be one of the seven sins (if they do that in Japanese Hell, that is), but that doesn't mean he'll suffer no lazy fools. In fact, his punishments are supposed to be legendary, even in Hell.

Next week, I've got something for you that... well, has been delayed for a while, though by no fault of my own. See you guys then.

Freeze frame photosynthesis... OF THE FUTURE!

It wasn't easy to get our two reviews of the week to combine their powers, because Allen and Nick undertakes two quite different shows here.

Allen takes a look at Knights of Sidonia, a sci-fi epic slash haremite show that tries to go "yeah, see... there's a good reason these ladies are lying around naked, and that's because... uh... LOOK! EXPLOSIONS AND LASERS!"

...which might possibly go over quite well with the residents of Nick's undertaking of the week, the Genshiken OAV. It's more of an interlude this time around, possibly meant to bridge the gap between the original TV series and its sequel. Either way, Nick remains... reasonably impressed.

Which brings us to the end of this update. Next weekend, hell awaits you all. Until then, sweet dreams.

A Certain Magical Princess Man.

Not much to shout about this week.

Nick watches A Certain Magical Index, a show of no small fame, at least in certain circles. He's not particularly enthused about it, though.

Tim gives Himegoto a go, and really wishes he didn't. The show is arguably about crossdressing, but in a really harrowing and meanspirited way, and he'd rather you didn't subject yourself to it.

Well, that could have been more fun, I guess. Hopefully, next week will make up for this. See you then.

You're once... twice... Rie kind's a lady....

Looks like we've got two shows for you this time, with Rie Kugimiya as the leading lady.

Allen's choice of the week is Expelled From Paradise, a sci-fi wonderland where Rie plays a soul placed in an artificial biological construct that actually makes her look like she could be approaching her twenties. Allen says the movie is "a'ight", though the fact that this role may or may not be considered a bit of departure for her; ironically enough, given just how many different characters she has played. However....

...Nick's choice of the week was a request, or rather, the continuation of one. He's approaching the end with his review of Shakugan no Shana S, playing none other than the very character that made her rise into fame as far, FAR younger-than-she-looks tsundere icon number one.

That's our lot for today. See you again next week,

Wish Upon a Rolling Star...

I'm not entirely sure if the two shows we have reviews for this week have much in common outside of seemingly all-female main casts, but let's see if we can find some common ground here.

Nick takes a look at Rolling Girls, a show that takes its cues from several other shows, and the general consensus is that maybe it should've kept to one of them if it isn't going to pay its dues to all.

Allen puts more of a scientific bent to his own scrutiny of Wish Upon the Pleiades, and he finds it a show that apparently doesn't care much for fact-checking before throwing out names and labels, which will only serve to make it even more unintentionally hilarious show for those with a little know-how on the subject.

And that's our lot for this time. Next week, Nick will finally come full circle with a once-famous TV series. So light up your torches.
