Our brave Editor Emeritus Carlos goes it alone this week with two reviews: a quick take on the four-episode television series coda Kokoro Connect: Michi Random, and a long-delayed second opinion of Gainax classic Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water that tackles head-on what is unquestionably the most divisive aspect of an otherwise spectacular series.

Ironically, sort of like his days in Japan, Carlos has spent more time with the birds than watching anime this week, but we'll be sure to yank him away from the wildlife refuge long enough to wring another review out of him.

- A Mysterious Masked Cloistered Emperor Who Is Totally Not Talking About Himself In Third Person, Nosirree.

All our reviews have odd numbers of stars today -- how odd is that?

Dallas starts us off with a look at the 1971 oddity Kanashimi no Belladonna, which was produced, but not directed by Osamu Tezuka.

And then I get to grab a fresh trout and deliver a thorough, fresh slapping to the oddly bad 1989 OVA Dog Soldier: Shadows of the Past.

Aiden finishes us off with a glowing review of Hellsing Ultimate, an oddly exciting epitome of the aesthetic of Crazy/Awesome.

Time for our very late Monday night update.

Tonight we have two Kyoto Animation shows for the price of one! First up is Aiden with last spring's critically popular mystery drama Hyouka. Then it's me with my review of Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.

And lastly we have from Jake Strawberry Panic!, which he sadly gives a thumbs down for.

.....and somebody spoke, I went into a dream, and I realized that I'd goofed. Apologies for the lateness of this update.

Apologies to Mr. McCartney, also.

Anyhow, Aiden starts us of with a review of both seasons of Jormungand. He seems to wish that it had either played its action premise straight or gone full out Black Lagoon style instead of turning into the odd, tepid mess that he describes it as. And yet, in his words, it is more "disappointing than truly bad", so at least it was not a total loss.

Allen, meanwhile, presents us with Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, which he says interested him more than he'd expected, given its kooky premise.

And lastly, it's time to take a trip down south: I've got Michiko and Hatchin, which was just licensed for an American Release. One could describe it as Cowboy Bebop set in Brazil, and while it's not a bad comparison, I have plenty else to say about it, and most of it is positive.

Even if the Mayans lived nowhere near Brazil.
