Full Moon o Sagashite: Cute Cute Adventure

Synopsis

Mitsuki has to make a TV appearance soon, but Takuto and Meroko are not there to transform her! It appears they got sidetracked along the way by a badly-drawn dog, fell down a stock footage waterfall, got picked up by a bird that looks like chicken scratches, and FINALLY, they were dropped down into a bush outside the TV studio, where Mitsuki finds them. She transforms: the end and good riddance.

Review

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!

This OAV was horrid! HORRID!!!

Words cannot describe the horridness of it all ... the doinky animation ... doinky writing ... doinky everything!

I will try to start.

First of all, the animation is horrible, certainly not up to par with the TV series. Apparently the entire budget was wasted on the Ultra Maniac OAV which was bundled with this one, because I cannot see how this ... this ... mess ... is so badly animated.

Secondly, the "plot" of this one is even worse than the Time Stranger Kyoko OAV. Oh no, Mitsuki can't transform! Will the shinigami make it in time?! Just ... stop it ... please ... If I had seen this OAV before the TV series I would have sworn off Full Moon o Sagashite, never knowing of the wonderfulness that the TV series is. I love Tanemura Arina's works, and I feel that Time Stranger Kyoko should have been made into a TV series, but this OAV is so doinky ... so incredibly doinky ... that it only gives her, and Ribon, a bad name.

Thirdly, this OAV is mainly a big Ribon commercial. I could do with the Ribon plugs in the TV series because they don't impact the plot, and actually are kind of funny. But this OAV plays out like a commercial, and you keep expecting an announcer to pop up at the end and say "Buy Ribon, PLEEEEEEEEASE". Many Ribon OAVs are huge commercials but this one takes them to new extremes. The TV show Mitsuki is on is sponsored by Ribon, Mitsuki says how much she looves reading Ribon ... stop it ... please ... stop...

Fourth, the horrid ending "theme" to this OAV is just a bunch of guys saying "doo doo doo doo doo" over generic music. It was enough to make me writhe in pain. Why couldn't they use the wonderful TV series music instead? It would have been much better, though it wouldn't make up for the doinkiness.

This OAV makes me glad that there is a TV series to Full Moon o Sagashite, instead of *just* this like Time Stranger Kyoko. Indeed, just skip this OAV, and do not go through the pain and torture that I went through. Just watch the TV series instead, you will be much happier for it.

A waste of a great TV and manga series.Jennifer Berman

Recommended Audience: Just like Wedding Peach. Little girls. Bored little girls with nothing better to watch.
