Sex Demon Queen

Synopsis

(non-original text)

In a time of fantasy and high adventure, the sorceress Kuri uses her magic to defend herself from all manner of perverted monsters and demons. Her partner is the lovely swordswoman Linna ... who would much rather do perverted things with the monsters and demons than actually fight them. Together they save a young woman from a gang rape unintentionally catching the eye of an evil Sex Queen and her army of demons. This Queen isn't the kind of girl who takes no for an answer. When her demons release the passions of Kuri and Linna, then even their formidable magic won't be able to save them.

Review

Given the ... genre ... of the show, it's a wonder it wasn't called Sex Demon Blackmail Bondage Tentacle High School Girls, except there are no high school girls to be had here. Or blackmail, for that matter.

What you can expect, however, is what pretty much can be described as the hentai version of Excel Saga set in fantasy land.

The one part OAV follows in the exploits of Kuri and Linna, and their perilous journey through the lands of ... uh ... something. I probably missed the name because I was too busy laughing. Kuri and Linna are mostly as different as you can get, with one of them being collected and patient, while the other ... well, let's just say she wants attention, and lots of it. Together, they manage to pass through most of the cliches of fantasy anime hentaidom, complete with journey maps, oddball monsters who sexually assault our main characters (this one could easily have made some "Revenge of Menchi" references,) and the "evil queen of nefarious plans", who often confronts our "heroes" to exposit about her grand plans (often interrupted by a small puppy licking her in ... uh ... never mind.) There are even various side characters that seem to be delegated the same role; to stagger onscreen, dive from a roof or a hilltop just to make their dying speeches in the presence of our winning team.

If Sex Demon Queen has any negatives, then the short runtime would be it. Granted, I'm guessing that this OAV might have been just an experiment, testing whether this sort of thing would be well received. Thirty minutes isn't long, so all in all, I can't really say that a lot is happening before its untimely and technically inconclusive end. It's a shame too, because this certainly has promise, and if there's one thing the last episode of Excel Saga proved, there are quite some lengths one could go to in the name of comedy. (And I haven't even seen any of the Ping Pong Club episodes either.) It's short, but ultimately satisfying. Though the asking price MIGHT be a little bit too much for a mere thirty minutes. It depends, I guess, where you'll find it, and at what price.

I'm rating this one four stars based on content alone, though you should probably remove a star based on its availability (or lack thereof) at bargain prices or as a rental.Stig Høgset

Recommended Audience: Not for minors whatsoever. The sex in this one is VERY explicit. Plus, the rape and violence adds to the rating as well.
