He Is My MasterSynopsisSawatari Izumi and her sister Mitsuki is on the run from home. After failing to find work to support themselves, they end up in the home of Nakabayashi Yoshitaka, an orphan child who lost his parents but inherited their grand fortune. Problem is, Yoshitaka is one of the neighborhood's biggest jerks, who wasted no time in proclaiming his desire to have the two girls work for him as his maids. Combined with Izumi's short temper, the ensuing fracas left quite a few valuable posessions in pieces and the two girls with no options but caving in to Yoshitaka's demands. Add one horny alligator and a school filled with idiots, and you have the newest maid fetish offering on the market ReviewHaving seen four episodes of this show, I am left with ONE question: what the foxtrot, Gainax? It's not like this is the first MAID work they've done. But then, Mahoromatic -- for all its flamboyant fanservice servitude -- actually had a plot working in its favor, not to mention the fact that Mahoro WORKED as a maid. He is my master, on the other hand, is what you get when your only aim is to satisfy the people who watch this kind of stuff merely to gander at girls in various uniforms. It's quite frankly nothing more than a shameless peepshow starring an exploitative jerk, a psychotic bitch and .... well, I'm not sure what to make of psycho-bitch's little sister. Lolita maid? There's also a school full of dumbasses, including a girl that will, from the third episode, provide all the yuri-based giggles coming out of this show, to which izumi is on the receiving end. Of course, there's also the two sisters' pet, Poochi, the alligator that sexually assaults Izumi every time he notices her. And this is from GAINAX? I mean, Jesus.... it's hardly the first time Gainax has resorted to fanservice in their shows (hence the term "Gainax bounce"), but still, their shows has always been of high quality, from the classic Gunbuster (to its rather insane but still watchable sequel), the overangsty Neon Genesis Evangelion, the mass insanity that is FLCL, the comedy/drama combo that is Mahoromatic... and now this. And what a gem we have. One thing's for sure, though. Sawatari Izumi is a stupid twit. Not only did she run away from home, for whatever reasons the show hasn't seen fit to explain yet, but she also drug her little sister into this act of stupidity. And judging by her sister's reaction, the two didn't run away from abusive parents or anything seemingly bad. The fact that Izumi is prone to impulsive and rash desicions just compounds the fact that she has no idea what she's doing. When she finally meet up with Yoshitaka, who blatantly proclaims his desire to have the two working as his maids, she snaps and starts throwing everything she can get her hands on, which appears to be expensive vases and other artifacts. She has no control over her temper whatsoever, and only succeeds in bringing herself and her sister deeper into trouble each time she loses her cool. (Which is QUITE often.) Of course, Nakabayashi Yoshitaka is by no means a good person, much less a saint. He desperately wants the two girls to serve as his maids -- not to take care of his home, but as his personal uniform models whom he can boss around or peep at whenever he feels like it. He spares no expenses (or nights of sleep) to find new ways to embarrass the girls for his own amusement, and it comes to no surprise that all the people at school hates his guts. He has camera surveillance all over his mansion, where he takes great delight in checking the girls out whenever they think they'll have a private moment to themselves. The only character in this show that I do not hate would have to be Izumi's sister Mitsuki, but that's only because I don't rightly know what to make of her. She seems generally innocent and clueless, but is apparently adept at computer hacking. She's mainly cheerful to a fault, and has no compunctions about adhering to Yoshitaka's demands. Still, she seems fully able to come up with devious plans on her own, which eventually leads to more stupidity. Incidentally, I have no idea whether to think of her as a good character, and I probably won't stick around to find out either. He is my master does -- at the beginning, at least -- stick to a rather formulaic and episodic plot. There's not much happening storywise, except completely random insanity heavily slathered in fanservice. This show is like a teenage male's wet dream. There's guns -- yes, GUNS -- and the kind of near-nudity you can expect out of exploitative crap like this. The girls are being put into uniforms, seemingly just so Poochi, the sexually deviant reptilian, can have something to tear to shreds, subjecting the viewers to the kind of cheesecake they would like to see. It's all so brain-numbing and base, I don't really see how this show can improve in later episodes, even though one might theorize that this show can't do anything BUT improve. Bottom of the hill, and all that. I don't think there's much more I need to say here. I'm still rather amazed that this is a Gainax work, which does concern me to some extent. Granted, I hardly know every work they've made, but I really can't see how they could have made anything even HALF as bad as this show earlier. It's a mark in the box for the lowest common denominator and should be avoided with the highest priority. Exploitative, unredeemable dreck that should be left alone, unconsumed — Stig Høgset Recommended Audience: There is nudity on this show, though not explicit. In fact, the show almost goes the Austin Powers route of covering up unmentionables, which does make this show appropriate for teenagers, if nothing else.
