Gall Force: Eternal Story

Synopsis

Two races, the Solenoids and the Paranoids (yeah, yeah, I know. I thought so, too) have been at war for a long long time. During one of the more decisive space battles, only ten women (of course) are left on the battlefield on the Solenoid side. The Solenoids barely escape, but not before a Paranoid is able to plant a biological weapon onto the ship. As the crew desperately tries to survive, pursued by Paranoids all the way, an intergalactic conspiracy is slowly revealed, and the biological weapon turns out to be much more than either side had bargained for!

Review

Well, as science fiction space battle anime goes, this wasn't too bad. There wasn't all that much to distinguish it from its peers, though, either.

Animation-wise, it isn't too shabby. The chase scenes towards the end were really good, and the escape from the Paranoids was actually pretty good. The art is a bit on the stylized style, though, and lacks the polish its peers often possess.

I can't really say much about the characters, mainly because I didn't really get to know them very well at all. Just as I would start to get used to a particular crew member, she would get killed off. It was kind of a surprise when the first crew member died, but after the third or fourth one, I actually started getting a perverse sense of disappointment when a member actually survived an ordeal. Yeah, I'm a stinker. What can I say?

Soundtrack was adequate (standard stuff). Plotwise, though, Eternal Story was better than average. The conspiracy thing was fairly interesting, and the ending was quite interesting.

Overall, not bad. An entertaining watch, but there's definitely better stuff out there.

Recommended Audience: Not too much to complain about. There is a brief shot of nudity (I think) during a bathroom scene, and the transfusion of a couple of Paranoids into combat forms might bother younger audiences. Probably okay for most audiences, although some of the more sensitive might have a problem with almost all the main characters biting the dust.
